Holy Cross Church Vestibule Doors
Susan designed the arching doors and sidelights to reflect the gothic interior of Holy Cross Church, built in 1889 on the site of an original California Mission church. The 800 pound, 12 feet high cherry doors are constructed over a core of hollow steel tubing, allowing the massive weight to appear as a light filigree. Brilliant-cut glass panels of flowing baptismal waters are held in place by brass mullions. The doors were commissioned to celebrate the re-opening of the church after completion of extensive repairs following the 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake. |
Altar Windows
When the interior of Holy Cross Church was remodeled to accommodate modern liturgical needs, Susan Wagner Designs was asked to create three new stained glass windows to replace wooden panels below the original stained glass from 1889. Selecting motifs from the existing Alpha, Omega, and Flaming Cross windows, she designed the three lower windows to blend seamlessly with the windows that had been made one hundred years earlier. |
